A MAJOR LACROSSE EVENT IN BRIDGEWATER
U.S. Under-19 Men’s Lacrosse team to battle regional team with NJ standouts
BRIDGEWATER -- The Under-19 U.S. National men’s lacrosse team is ready to travel British Columbia , Canada to battle the rest of the world in the International Lacrosse Championships to be held in July. However, before they head north they have some unfinished business in New Jersey .
There’s a group of lacrosse players from the Garden State that want to make sure that they have what it takes to be World Champions.
The exhibition between the national team and a selected group of New Jersey and Long Island All-Star standouts will be held on June 14 th at Basilone Field at Bridgewater-Raritan High School at 7 p.m.
The U.S. National team is coached by Bridgewater-Raritan coach Chuck Apel who will be assisted by Mountain Lakes coach Tim Flynn. The exhibition is one of a handful of warm up games for the U.S. team preparing for the International Lacrosse Championships at Coquitlam , British Columbia , Canada from July 3-12.
Among the U.S. National Team members is Delbarton’s Jack McBride, a Madison resident, who has finished a stellar freshman season at Princeton and Villanova standout John Lade from Randolph, Georgetown’s Robert Boyle, a former Lawrenceville defenseman and Rutgers’ midfielder Brian Shemesh a Hillsborough resident who played for Immaculata.
The regional All-Star team will be coached by Delbarton coach Chuck Ruebling and many of the Garden State standouts scheduled to compete include players that tried out for the national team and are determined to prove that they belonged on the national team list.
Among the New Jersey athletes scheduled to suit up include: Duke’s Ned Crotty (a Delbarton grad from Harding Twp.), New Jersey Player of the Year and two-time All-American Pete Coleman, Loyola’s Steve Dircks (Mountain Lakes), Ohio State’s Keith Lovett (Madison), Maryland’s Warren Hansen (Don Bosco Prep), Rutgers’ Justin Pennington (Flemington), and Villanova’s T. J. O’Donnell (Delbarton/Randolph).
The exhibition will be played by international rules and without the use of sideline horns.
The gates open at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome. A $5 donation is requested for all adults but students and youth can come for FREE. There will be games and a concession stands. Young fans are encouraged to bring their sticks if they like. Autograph sessions will be held by both teams afterwards. See you there.
